São Filipe: Excursion to the Fogo Volcano and Chã das Caldeiras with local wine tasting

Upon arrival at Fogo Natural Park, you will travel to Chã das Caldeiras, a vast volcanic plain at the foot of Pico do Fogo. Your guide will explain the island's geological history and the consequences of the last eruption in 2014, which profoundly transformed this landscape. You will walk on ancient solidified lava flows, discover houses rebuilt with volcanic stone, and meet the inhabitants who have chosen to return to live in the heart of the volcano. You will also learn about local agriculture, renowned for its vineyards and organic crops that thrive thanks to the exceptional fertility of the volcanic soils. Before heading back to São Filipe, enjoy a tasting of a glass of Manecón, the traditional wine of Chã das Caldeiras.
